About Ashnee
Ashnee V. Dunning is a strategic visionary, servant leader, energy producer, and super learner. She enjoys sunshine, laughing, breathing and thinking. Ashnee serves as CEO of the Power Initiative, a social profit agency that engages in programs, services, projects and relationships that support communities to identify gaps and facilitate solutions to real life experiences. She is also the Executive Director of the Flint Freedom Schools Collaborative, a strategic disruption to educational injustice. Ashnee is the First Vice President of the Flint Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and spends much of her time volunteering on various boards and community projects.
At the foundation of all that Mrs. Dunning does, is a commitment to curating positive culture, cultivating talent, developing systems and mobilizing solutions. She is an “ask forgiveness, not permission”, “make it make sense”, “say it with your chest”, “loyalty, loyalty, loyalty” queen of Wakanda and Northside Flintstone. Ashnee is blessed to spend much of her time practicing Black liberation and fighting systemic oppression alongside a group of genuine and dynamic individuals, and does much of her work with a baby on her hip. Ashnee V. Dunning is the daughter of Michelle R. Young, granddaughter of Stevella Young, and great granddaughter of Mary Ella March. She is her ancestors’ wildest dreams and the manifestation of her village’s prayers. Ashnee is on a journey to reclaim her time by choosing joy and rejecting societal norms that do not suit her legacy, unapologetically.
